Flying around London in a helicopter with the doors off is (almost) always a fantastic experience and one I try to remember I'm privileged to have. At night the city really takes on a different look, and you do sometimes just find yourself thinking, 'WOW, this is bloody amazing!'

One such experience that sticks with me happened about five years ago, when I was flying right in the middle of London just a couple of days before the summer equinox. It was getting later and later, and the sun seemed to take forever to dip beyond the horizon. My pilot had been talking as normal to air traffic and slowly all the other aircraft in and around London had landed. The skies became completely quiet apart from us. Air traffic control came up one last time through our headsets and said, 'The city is yours!'. They are words I'll never forget.
